IVF involves adding prepared sperm to a dish containing eggs or injecting a single sperm inside the egg (ICSI). The sperm swim to the eggs and attempt to fertilise them. Once fertilised, the embryos are monitored and transferred back into the uterus at the correct time. There may also be excess good quality embryos which can be frozen and stored for future use by a procedure called Frozen Embryo Transfer.
